When it comes to adopting a Miniature Schnauzer puppy, many people often ask whether it is better to get a male or a female puppy. While both sexes make for great pets, they have slight variations in their personalities, and knowing this can help you make the right choice. Here’s what you should know about the male and female Miniature Schnauzer puppy.
Appearance between the male or female puppy
When it comes to the physical differences between male and female Miniature Schnauzer puppy it can be hard to tell them apart as they very similar in terms of physical features. However, a physical examination will reveal that a male Miniature Schnauzer puppy is usually taller by a few inches and heavier by a few pounds than its female counterparts. On the other hand, female Miniature Schnauzers tend to have slightly less muscle mass.
Temperament differences of the male or female puppy
Generally, Miniature schnauzer pups of both genders are playful, friendly, smart and loyal. However, male Schnauzers are seldom moody and are always happy to play at any given opportunity. Because of their energy levels, they are happy to play outdoors and this means they are more likely to get messier. They have a strong desire to please their owner and as a result, they desire human company a great deal and will stay by yours side for a long time.
In contrast, female Miniature Schnauzer puppies are less willingly to play, so don’t expect them to be excited all the time. Because of this, they are generally cleaner than their male counterparts. Furthermore, females are not as dependent on their owners as the males. Sure, they may come in for a cuddle once in a while but they will get up and walk away when they’ve had enough.
Nonetheless, they are also friendly, smart and loyal.
Trainability of the male and female puppy
As stated earlier, male Miniature Schnauzers enjoy playing and this makes it hard to train them since they are get distracted easily. You will have to do a lot to get their attention and keep it for as long as you can. However, you can leverage the power of treats to get them to focus. Similarly, it can be hard to housetrain and leash train a male Mini Schnauzer pup but training on obedience and tricks is less demanding.
Since they play less and are more focused than the male Schnauzers, the females are easier and faster to train. Whether it is leash training or housetraining, you will have significantly less issues with female Mini Schnauzers. However, they are quite independent and can be stubborn too, so training will only begin when they are ready. A female Miniature schnauzer puppy feels no need to impress her owner, so you might have a hard time training them on obedience or tricks.

Generally, Male Mini Schnauzers are less prone to health problems that are common to the breed. That doesn’t mean they don’t develop these health issues but they have a lower incidence rate. Their average lifespan is between 12 and 14 years.
Females are known to be affected more by two diseases than their male counterparts and these are urinary stones and Cushing disease. Their lifespan also ranges between 12 to 14 years.
Socialization between the male and female puppy
Male Mini Schnauzers are playful, which means they will have a swell time with kids until they both get exhausted. They can also get carried away and not know where to draw the line, thus increasing the risks of children getting hurt. They should be left alone only with older children who have been taught to treat a dog properly.
On the other hand, female Schnauzers are good with kids as they are playful, affectionate and kind. It is also believed that they’re a better choice for kids since they possess nurturing and protective instincts. A female Mini Schnauzer pup is also less likely to snap when teased.

If you’re looking to adopt a Mini Schnauzer pup, avoid the temptation to select the cutest puppy. It’s always best to take into account their characteristics so you can choose the gender that fits your preferences. I personally have found the boys to be so sweet and affectionate and the girls certainly are also, but they may be a bit more aloof or standoffish depending on their mood. The boys are just a little more simple emotionally I think – the girls have a lot more going on hormonally.
But, I love all my doggos, I have the best, sweetest fur babies!
